Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)

Professional Learning Communities

The Center for the Advancement of Learning (CAL) facilitates Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) that work collaboratively to enhance teaching effectiveness and improve student learning outcomes. Our Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs) meet monthly in a virtual format via Webex, providing a space for faculty to exchange ideas, explore best practices, and implement innovative teaching strategies.

Available Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs)

  • Faculty Learning Community for Course Design

This FLC focuses on designing high-quality courses that enhance student engagement and success. Faculty participants explore evidence-based instructional strategies, course structure optimization, and digital tools to create effective and accessible learning experiences. Discussions also cover integrating Quality Matters (QM) standards and best practices in course design across UDC's learning modalities.
    To enroll, please email Julian.King@udc.edu.
  • Faculty Learning Community for HyFlex

This FLC supports faculty in implementing the HyFlex instructional modality, which provides students with the flexibility to engage in courses either in person or synchronously online. Faculty collaborate to develop pedagogical approaches, leverage technology strategies, and refine assessment methods to ensure equitable learning experiences. In addition, it addresses challenges related to classroom technologies and software, helping faculty navigate and integrate digital tools effectively.
