The Center for the Advancement of Learning offers diverse training programs for UDC faculty, staff, and graduate assistants, covering topics such as digital teaching, course design, assessments, and essential platforms within the UDC ecosystem. These programs are designed to equip participants with the skills needed to enhance teaching effectiveness and support student success. Upon completion, participants earn competency-based digital badges or certificates.
The Digital Teaching Certificate (DTC) is an asynchronous, self-paced online training designed to equip faculty with foundational knowledge in digital teaching and learning. It covers essential concepts, terminology, and best practices, with a focus on effectively using Blackboard Ultra to create, organize, and assess course content. Participants will also explore UDC’s digital tools and the critical role of digital accessibility. By course completion, faculty will be prepared to integrate digital technologies into their instructional practices.
The course consists of four modules:

Obtaining the Digital Teaching Certification (DTC) is mandatory for all UDC faculty members.

The APPQMR workshop is an asynchronous online training that prepares educators to use the research-based Quality Matters Higher Education Rubric to evaluate online and hybrid course design. Participants develop skills in assessing course quality, with a focus on design, engagement, accessibility, and effectiveness. The workshop covers best practices in online course design, including learning objectives, instructional materials, assessments, accessibility, and course navigation, all guided by the QM Rubric.
This asynchronous, two-week workshop requires a minimum commitment of 10-12 hours per week and is offered by Quality Matters.

Teaching Online (TOL) is an asynchronous online training designed to provide faculty with an in-depth understanding of the fundamental elements of online course delivery. Throughout the workshop, participants will explore best practices for effective teaching in an online learning environment, gain insights into the roles of both instructors and learners in the online classroom, discover strategies for engaging and retaining student interest, and learn techniques for facilitating dynamic online discussions using discussion boards.
This asynchronous, two-week workshop requires a minimum commitment of 10-12 hours per week and is offered by Quality Matters.
This workshop is mandatory for faculty members teaching Distance Learning courses (Online/Hybrid).

The Multi-Modal Educator Certification is a hybrid training program designed to equip you with the necessary skills to deliver high-quality instruction in a HyFlex mode. This certification is comprised of two parts:
1. An asynchronous, self-paced training.
2. A four-hour face-to-face session.
During the program, participants will delve into learning science, technology, and best practices. Once you are certified, you can submit a request to your Dean/Chair to teach your classes in the HyFlex mode.

UDC Assessment Fundamentals is an asynchronous, self-paced training developed by the Office of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness (OPIE). It consists of five self-paced workshops. The workshops are aligned with UDC’s Cycle of Continuous Improvement.

The Teaching Assistant Training Certificate course has been meticulously crafted to enrich teaching assistants’ understanding of the learning process, broaden their repertoire of instructional strategies, and provide them with ample opportunities to apply these newfound insights to facilitate effective learning experiences. It is centered around the concept of reflective practice, which involves the skill of introspection and the pursuit of continuous learning through thoughtful consideration of one’s actions and experiences. By engaging in this reflective practice, teaching assistants will be better equipped to grow as educators and continuously improve their teaching methodologies.
