C-SPAN
C-SPAN is looking for a spring intern.
Responsibilities will include research, writing and production. Learning aspects of print and video production may include; technical, promotional, public relations techniques and program production.

Interns will gain media experience through a structured program in the nation's capital that will explore facets of the cable industry and politics. They will learn new skills and earn college credit. While getting a close-up view of Capitol Hill functions.

In order to apply you must be an undergraduate junior or senior, interning for college credit, interested in media and politics and able to work a minimum of 16 hours per week. Applicants can apply to intern in the following departments; Marketing, Programming, Programming Operations, Information Systems, New Media, C-SPAN Radio and Engineering.

Families USA
Families USA is looking for a spring intern that will work closely with the Health Policy Department staff on a variety of activities that include the following:

  • Conduct and translate research on the impact of the Affordable Care Act including the Medicaid expansion, new state exchanges, new premium and cost-sharing subsidies, new rules and requirements in the private insurance market, new consumer insurance protections, and the initiatives to improve quality and reduce health care costs
  • Conduct and translate research on proposals to alter the Medicare program and the potential impact on beneficiaries
  • Survey state agencies and state advocates
  • Collect specific data for health policy media reports
  • Prepare drafts of other short and long-format materials relevant to current health policy debates.

Interns will work collaboratively with staff to see a written product from start to finish.
            They often get the opportunity to be listed as a co-authors on one or more products. Interns in the past have co-authored issue briefs for state advocates and materials posted on the Families USA website.
Interns are encouraged to take part in the active political community of Washington, D.C., by attending hearings on Capitol Hill, press conferences at the National Press Club, and policy forums at other organizations and think tanks, such as the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Center for American Progress. Interns are also expected to participate in discussions of advocacy work and political issues.
Qualifications Include:

  • Strong research, writing, and computer skills
  • Knowledge of the Affordable Care Act and health policy
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to the issues of low-income people.

Interns are paid ($8.25 per hour) and normally work 40 hours per week. Start and end dates are flexible.

Center for Student Opportunity
Center for Student Opportunity are looking for spring interns will be exposed to all facets of an active nonprofit. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, program support, development for current and future initiatives, marketing, partner services, and fundraising research and development.
The internship program is designed to have a general appeal. The center will work with all interns to assign a specific initiative that will focus that reflects their field of study and interest areas of the intern. The intern will work closely with CSO staff, actively participate in internal meetings, be expected to bring fresh ideas to the table, and contribute to the program's development and operation.

CSO will select interns with excellent writing, communication, and personal skills. They are also looking for individuals who have experience in the nonprofit sector (specific to education a plus) and are comfortable working in a startup environment (flexible, hardworking, small office).

WUSA 9

WUSA 9 is seeking interns for the spring semester. Applicants must be a college Junior, Senior or Graduate student and be receiving academic credit for their internship.

A letter confirming academic credit, on school letterhead from an advisor, must be submitted before the student is allowed to start their internship. All internships are non-paid and non-technical in nature.
