Mathematics - BS

Program Overview

Bachelor of Science in Mathematics

Ready to learn what it takes to become an esteemed mathematician? Take the first step by earning your Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree from the University of the District of Columbia. In our program, the end goal is and will always be the success of our students. With that in mind, we developed small class sizes with 15 to 20 students on average and upper-level classes of 5 to 10 students each to ensure that you receive a tailored learning experience and personalized interactions with faculty members and peers alike!

Within the program, you will have the option of choosing between two concentrations: Pure Mathematics and Statistics. Future plans for the program include additional concentrations in Accounting, Applied Mathematics and Pre-Medicine, with the goal of expanding the overall scope of the mathematics program to better serve the academic interests and career paths of our current and prospective students.

At UDC, learning doesn't just happen in the classroom. Experiential learning and internships are a crucial part of the curriculum, with a myriad of opportunities provided by prestigious institutions and organizations, including:

  • Summer math programs at other universities
  • Initiatives by national organizations like the Mathematical Association of America, National Association of Mathematics, American Statistical Society, National Science Foundation, American Mathematical Society and Quality Education for Minorities
  • Placements within government agencies including the NSA, NASA, NOAA and the Census Bureau

For many years, our program has reached high achievements, including a near-perfect graduation rate of 99 percent, as well as a 99 percent employment rate for our graduates. We're certain that our program's level of success stands hand-in-hand with its quality, along with the competitive edge it provides graduates as they enter the job market.
