The University of the District of Columbia (UDC) shared commercial kitchen on the Van Ness (main) campus is an affordable, licensed kitchen facility available to aspiring food entrepreneurs, small businesses, etc. As a food business incubator, UDC provides its members with affordable daily, hourly and monthly rental rates. UDC also offers food safety training & kitchen management training. This, coupled with deep connections to other local resources, helps members to launch and grow their small businesses.

The UDC shared commercial kitchen on the Lamond Riggs (formerly Bertie Backus) campus is an affordable, licensed kitchen facility available to aspiring food entrepreneurs, small businesses, etc. In addition to offering shared kitchen space, UDC provides food safety training, kitchen management training and master gardening training, which connects potential food business entrepreneurs with community resources, mentorship, and kitchen management development. UDC aims to help food businesses become more established and further improve community food security by bringing more affordably shared kitchen pricing into the local market.

Shared Commercial Kitchen Application

Thank you for choosing UDC shared commercial kitchen as your food and beverage production location. This application will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Before starting the application, please have an electronic copy of your business license available. You will be required to upload a valid business license. Also, please have available in electronic form, your food handler certificate and kitchen management certificate, as you will be required to upload both certificates before submitting your application.

Kindly note that this application includes questions that requires an answer/response therefore, you will not be allowed to move forward unless you provide an answer or response to said questions. If you forget to include information to a question that you previously answered, DO NOT PANIC! You will be allowed to go back. Simply just click the back error key and you will be allowed to return to previous questions.

After starting the application, you are not required to complete the application in one sitting. However, you must complete the entire application within 72 hours. If you do not complete the application within 72 hours, when you return to the application, you will be required to start at the very beginning. Also, after 72 hours, information that was previously added to the application will not be saved.

Shared Kitchen Terms and Conditions Agreement

Thank you for choosing UDC shared commercial kitchen as your food and beverage production location. These terms and conditions agreement will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Please thoroughly read each section of this agreement before agreeing.

Before starting, please have an electric copy of your business insurance available, as you will be required to upload a copy before submitting your agreement.

Please note that all sections of this agreement require you to acknowledge and agree. Therefore, if you fail to click “I acknowledge and agree” you will NOT be allowed to move to the next section of the agreement.

Kindly note that you will be allowed to go back and review each section before signing and submitting. Simply just click the back error key and you will be allowed to return to previous sections.

After you access the terms and conditions agreement, you must complete the agreement in one sitting. You will have 24 hours to complete the entire agreement. If you do not complete the agreement within 24 hours, when you return to the agreement, you will be required to start at the very beginning.

After your application and agreement has been fully executed, you will be provided with a copy of your signed agreement.
