Immersive Technologies at UDC
At the University of the District of Columbia we use immersive technologies to give our students and faculty new ways to view, hear, and touch the world around us. We bring these learning experiences to our students across our entire campus to provide an immersive environment conducive to applying and acquiring a variety of skills. We work with all departments to provide immersive experiences in the sciences, with anatomical models and virtual math modules, and in the humanities, with 360° documentaries and immersive student projects.
What are Immersive Technologies?
Immersive Technologies are the blending together of the digital world and the real world to create new experiences and ways to interact and learn. These technologies include Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), which integrate digital elements into the physical world in unique ways. Augmented reality technologies impose digital effects or images onto the real world, while virtual reality allows our real-world selves to enter digital worlds in full 360° vision and sound.
The Center for the Advancement of Learning (CAL) provides both equipment and training for all of our immersive experiences. We can provide access to virtual reality headsets, GoPro 360° cameras, and iPads for augmented reality apps along with the training for our faculty and students to succeed.
