October is a time for reflection
October is a busy month. In addition to National Hispanic Heritage Month, there are several important events that the University recognizes and honors. These celebrations allow us time to reflect and recognize the history and contributions of many. Among them are Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, AIDS Awareness Month, Filipino-American Heritage Month, Italian-American Heritage Month, National Native American Heritage Month and LGBT History Month.
On October 10, we celebrated World Mental Health Day. We would like to take this opportunity to remind students, staff and faculty that the University has several counseling resources available through the Counseling and Wellness Center. Students can call 202.274.6000 to make an appointment. Employees can contact the Inova Employee Assistance Program (EAP) at 800.346.0110 or visit www.inova.org/eap. Certified clinicians can also help you 24/7 through the D.C. Department of Behavioral Health’s mental health hotline at 1-888-793-4357.
