The core curriculum of this major aligns with the educational requirements for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) examination through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing. Successful graduates of this program will be eligible to sit for this examination which increases their job marketability.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 12% growth in the number of Community Health Workers from 2021 to 2031. This prediction is faster than the average for all occupations. To ensure that the University of the District of Columbia remains relevant and current, the Community Health Sciences program will be introduced in fall 2025 to meet the needs of the community and workforce demands.
