Avis Marie Russell

Avis Russell is the General Counsel for the University of the District of Columbia.  An experienced litigator and transactional attorney, Ms. Russell was appointed General Counsel at the University in March 2020.  She is a graduate of Wellesley College and received her J.D. from Tulane University School of Law. She is admitted for practice in the District of Columbia and Louisiana.

Erica N. Wright

Erica N, Wright joined the Office of the General Counsel in November 2019 as Assistant General Counsel.  Ms. Wright is responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements for the procurement of goods, services, technology, and other legal documents for the University.  She obtained her  J.D. from the University of Miami and her BA cum laude from Spelman College.  She is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia and the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of Florida.

Thomas E. Redmond

Thomas E. Redmond joined the Office of the General Counsel in September 2019. His work focuses on administrative law, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), student affairs and athletics. Previously, he served as the University’s Director of State and Local Affairs. Mr. Redmond holds a BA degree from the University of Mississippi, J.D. from Howard University School of Law and  LL.M from Harvard Law School. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Texas.

Mariett “Tina” Sanha

Tina Sanha joined the Office of the General Counsel in October 2022 as an Executive Assistant. Her responsibilities include administrative, financial, and operational support to the General Counsel and all her direct reports. She received a BA in European Studies from Modern University in Lisbon, Portugal.
